    • To Irene & the Clothier Family
I feel so gifted to have enjoyed the friendship of Michael for so many years
Of the attributes he had, I admired his warmth , humility and infectious humour. When he was in full flight,
we were bound to explode in laughter…
Our golf outings are so memorable.
So were occasions like new years eve.
All who knew Michael would surely have memories to treasure.
As a husband, a father, a relative or friend, Michael has left us a beautiful legacy. May he rest in peace..

  7. The thing about death is that it robs the future.

Mike’s job here on earth is done but he showed us, in his quiet way, how to navigate life’s landmines with style, grace and integrity. He and his wife Irine built a life that was filled with joy and generosity and a home overflowing with love, pure unconditional love.

I have had the honor to be part of this family for more than half my life. I have watched them adopt people I love with the same openness with which they adopted me. Mike has been (and will continue to be) the guide that I use as I make my way through life as a man, as a man of color, as a role model, as a lover, friend, son…

Their door at Milan Street was always open. It’s where you gathered on a Sunday for curry, biryani and, if you were lucky, some of Michelle’s sticky date pudding. It’s where you fell asleep on the sofa after lunch and no one made you move. It’s where you ended up when you needed a place to stay because your relationship hit a speedbump. It’s where you brought your mom, and your friends, when you wanted to show them that you were safe and cared for in a faraway land. It’s where you DANCED and SANG!

The dancing will continue; the lunches will continue; the singing will continue; the door will remain open. Mike may not be there sitting on the deck to greet you with a “howzit” as you make your way passed the gate, but I’ll still hear it when I arrive.

So, the future may not get to experience the greatness of Michael Stanley Clothier directly, but a bit of him lives on in all of us, and it’s our time to hold his torch and light the way.
