Condolences / Guest Book

  1. I commenced work as a Cadet Engineer with Siemens Halske Siemens Schuckert Australasia Proprietary Limited in January 1962. Walter Oechsle was my immediate supervisor until my departure for three years’ work experience with Siemens Erlangen. During this time – as well as on later occasions when our paths crossed – Walter was more than a colleague, he was my friend, my mentor, my adviser, and much, much more. I will always appreciate the engineering knowledge and experience learned from him. I also learnt a lot from Walter about life in Germany, the German language and the House of Siemens ‘way of life’.
I was saddened to read of Walter’s recent death and disappointed that I was unaware that he was now living in Australia. I am one of the many ‘inspired’ by his ‘life and legacy’.
I offer my condolences to all in his family.
    Thank you, Walter. RIP.

  2. Li and family,

Our thoughts are with all of you at this time of sadness.
We share very fond memories of our years in the Siemens community, when Walter was a friend, colleague and mentor, highly regarded and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
We especially value our reminiscences of our mutual family involvements both in Germany and Australia.

  3. Sue and I are very upset to learn of Walter’s sad passing and extend our sincere condolences to Li, the boys and their families. We met Walter and Li and their young family, in the early 1960’s, when they first arrived in Australia and I had the great pleasure of working closely with Walter, as a Siemens colleague in the decades that followed. Walter was a delightful fellow, always, honest, reliable and friendly and we developed a great business partnership in the Power Division. Walter was a great practical engineer, always across the complex technical problems, always looking for novel solutions and keen to train and develop his subordinates. Sue and I also remember with great affection the many happy social events and parties we enjoyed with Walter and Li and their wonderful hospitality. I will miss his company at Barbarians, Grub and Grog events.
Rest in peace, our dear friend. Many Blessings, Sue and Barry

  6. As the granddaughter of Anneli’s brother, I had the pleasure of visiting Walter and the entire family in Australia twice. The warm welcome was accompanied by cheerfulness, openness and exciting stories of their life in Australia: about the long ship voyage when they emigrated, about the pioneering work at Siemens, about own inventions, Australian BBQ and the ever growing family… I remember Walter as a loving father and grandfather and as an inventor with an attentive mind. Sincere condolences from Germany. Frederike

  9. Walter was a wonderful man of the highest possible character.
Curious, intelligent, diligent, generous, resourceful, fearless and always ethical and fair.
He would generously always make himself available to help others. I never ever heard him say a bad word about anyone no matter how difficult the circumstances.
He had a huge but very positive influence on my personal career with Siemens and for this I will be forever in his debt.
He has left his mark in this world and on all our lives. He is someone who is unique and irreplaceable. He will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives, he touched especially Berice and I.
Our sincerest condolences to you, his loving family.

    Vale Walter

  11. Dear Li, Guenter and family. So very very sorry for the loss of Walter – Opa, as I often called him. He was in all our lives for so long, being my sister’s father-in-law. Such a loving man, full of intelligence and many endearing qualities. Especially we remember his smiling nature, always listening to all and caring what everyone had to say. These are just a few of his many many wonderful attributes. What a lovely service in memory of a great man. May he now rest in peace. Lv from The Peakes

    Alles Gute. Günter und Elke.
