The fact that so many students remember Jim ‘Mr Parker’ so fondly is testament to his legacy. R.I.P
Such a kind and caring teacher who was an inspiration to so many. You will be sadly missed.
Fond memories of a beautiful man. A teacher who’s bark was far worse than his bite.
Taught myself and my husband in the eighties at SFX and then more than 20 years later, both our daughters at the same school. We all have our own great memories of Mr Parker. He won’t be forgotten and has left impressions on our hearts. Rest easy Mr Parker. Condolences to his family and friends ♥️
(Prelude: Jim taught in the same southern area of the school at St. Francis as I did, and in the same department – for decades – and so I was always crossing his paths.) Jim, I will always remember your strengths and your wonderful, witty, and sometimes creative manner in handling we staff and your students. Your strengths shone always, and the way in which you handled ALL of us came from a source of justice combined with compassion. If there were an attribute to remember you by, at least with your students, it was how you had a way in which you could transform and channel their energies, from the chaotic to the synchronous. It was a surprise to lose you, but not a surprise that you will be remembered so, so well, and by so, so many . . . . by all of us who crossed your paths.
Rest in peace my friend…. an absolute gentleman I knew you to be…
Rest in Peace Jim. Was a pleasure meeting you at interstate family events and our thoughts are with the family and friends in Victoria.
I was deeply saddened to hear that Mr Parker had passed away.
Being my care group teacher for six years, I got to see first hand Mr Parker’s good attributes, his respect towards others, his just, fair and compassionate nature, and his thoughtful words of wisdom every time I or any student had an issue going on. Usually following were his quick witted sayings and I don’t think that there was a day that he didn’t think one up.
Another quality was that Mr Parker always asked his students how they were feeling, and how their weekends were, and never had an issue telling the students about his experiences and it was always an inspiration to hear his journeys.
Mr Parker, you were an inspiration to so many. A true teacher, art teacher, and caring teacher. You knew that students needed to express them selves and achieve their goals, and you were always more than willing to go to the extra step to help and give them any support and encouragement that they needed.
If any difficulties came along, there was a line of words that you would use, and that was, that ‘there’s no such thing as can’t’.
In a way, one could argue that statement, how ever, I’ve remembered those words ever since and just about every time someone says to me that they can’t do or achieve something, I say ‘there’s no such thing as can’t, Mr Parker told me that’.
There is a nature reserve outside the front of the art room where Mr Parker taught at St Francis Xavier College and just about every tree planted in there was planted with Mr Parker’s input. Each tree was planted for a reason, with meaning and to symbolise something.
I think that a lot of people would like to plant another tree seedling there, so it can grow for and in memory of Mr Parker.
Sincere regrets that I am unable to attend Jims funeral tomorrow but I have recently had a knee replacement. Jim was a pleasure to work with one who was always honest in his dealings with both staff and students. Farewell my friend! Alice Mcpherson
