To Don’s Family,
Though we never had the honour of meeting you all, the people who were his foundation in life, Don made a profound impact on my family during a difficult time. When my own father was terminally ill, Don became a source of great strength. We shared many meaningful conversations, and I will forever cherish his wise (and often humorous) words.
He and my dad formed a special bond during their time together at Cabrini Hospital in 2007-2008. I still smile at the memories of Don walking the ward with his pee bag in tow and his late-night chats when, with little else to do, he’d hang his bag on the side of my dad’s bed and they’d talk and formed a bond over their love for the Dees!! When I first met Don, we sat either side of my Dad’s bed and he claimed my Dad was the Thorn between the roses.
Don, thank you for the memories, for your friendship, and for the guidance you gave me and Tate when he and his brother in-law pursued a business venture in Earthmoving. Your kindness and wisdom will never be forgotten. I am so saddened to read this news.
With deepest sympathy to you all.
Barry Ryan (dec) & Julie Ryan, Suze and Tate Benson xx
Fond memories of truck conferences and of reminiscing during special meals and Christmas calls.
Deepest sympathy Lindy and Family.
Kind Regards

Was always a good laugh with don while he was at lyrebird pleasure looking after him r.i.p Don
Time…if only we all had more…I always looked forward to our catch ups…then Covid and again time got away…always up for a good laugh…will miss you mate…condolences to Linda and family
Well mate, you were always an amazing man as dealer principal of Hallam Truck Centre, we then spent lots of adventures selling trucks at Westar Trucks in Footscray and enjoyed many conferences and had many memorable moments including storing the carp in the truck toolbox!
I will miss our hour long chats about the great old days and the present going’s on!
RIP mate till we catch up on the other side!
Condolences to all of Don’s family and friends. I love waterskiing because of Don. My Dad heard about Don waterskiing and he bought a speedboat and I learnt to ski. Thanks Don. Love from Margaret.
You can’t bullshit a bullshitter!
You gotta be where the others ain’t!
When you’re working for someone else you’re just a number – f##k em – you can do better yourself!
These are just a few of the many words of wisdom he bestowed upon us during the multiple ladies sippers evenings enjoyed with Don and Lindy over the 18 years since we first met.
From the moment he introduced himself to us with the words “it’s wonderful to see the pioneering spirit is alive and well” we both burst out laughing and just knew our new neighbours were going to be great.
We’ve shared so many fun times and laughs over the years.
We were lucky to get to know their amazing children as well who are a proven testament to the characters of Don and Lindy.
We’re going to miss the big fella but his memory will always be with us.
He was an inspiration, a guide and a huge motivator (although sometimes inappropriate).
If it wasn’t for Don we know we wouldn’t be we are today and for that we will be forever grateful.
Don New – larger than life, the man, the mentor. A bloody great friend who would always be there for you no matter what he was going through.
Rest in peace dear friend.
All our love

Don is a man I have known for 50 years.
Listening to both Marcus and Mikeyla
reflecting on all the funny incidents of their life with Don…. that was the Don that I remembered also.
We were neighbors in the early years. I recall Don coming over to our house not long after my wife at the time had given birth to our first child, who was being breast fed. Don arrived at the back door with cup in hand saying they needed some milk. I enquired “how much do you want” Don’s reply was “I reckon one side should be enough”
This is only one instance of Don’s typical humor.
I for one will miss the conversations that we had.
Don is a man I will never forget. Farewell my friend.
Kay and my thoughts
are with the family
and loved ones at this sad time.
So many beautiful memories of Don.
Condolences to you all.
Such great memories of Don through our teenage years and beyond. Always quick witted and so interesting to converse with. Sending my condolences to all who loved him and were lucky enough to know him.
I watched his Memorial Service and it painted a wonderful picture of a unique man who lived life to the full.
Sending so much love to you Lindy and your wonderful children. ❤️❤️❤️
