  2. I’m lost for words so can only imagine how Kaye, Barry, Michelle and Krissie are feeling. Garry was such a valued friend to Grubby and myself. I now know why Garry struggled to speak at Grubby’s funeral. I only hope that Garry knew how much we appreciated his friendship and that he and Grubby are having a drink together and talking crap again. As Garry would say “it is what it is”. Goodbye dear friend ❤️

Bazza, Michelle, Kaye, Krissie, Bev and wider family so sorry to hear about Garry but he would want everyone to bond together and be strong, raise a Crown Lager in his honour and share all the wonderful stories and interactions you had with him – there are many I am sure. 10. the right words to pay homage to a man that did so much for motorsport in Australia are difficult, but Gary will always be remembered as the man that was a leader in our sport putting young drivers into front running cars to show their talent and back back up his belief in their skills. A man that couldn’t be pushed around and took crap from nobody, he was his own man, RIP Gary a life well lived.

    John English
  11. Garry – you will be missed! You made me laugh so hard with your antics, and I was lucky enough to meet you, Bargs and Tander at the motorshow in Sydney after the 2000 Bathurst 1000 race.. You were kind enough to let me sit in the winning car!

My favourite memory of you though is when on a Friday night Pit Lane show at Bathurst, you called Roland Dane an old poof. Classic!

    RIP Gaz..

  20. One wondered where those incredibly colourful moments first surfaced on the racetrack.
Garry’s infectious personality shone like a bright beacon and obviously spilled over not only among his petrol-head associates at the track but to his wonderful family as well :)))

  21. To the Rogers family, my sincerest condolences on the loss of Garry. I have many fond memories of speaking with the Icon at race meetings across Australia but the one that stands out was at Winton meeting at Eastern Creek in 1998. My 4 year old son & I were walking through the merchandise area about 8.30am & we are wearing Peter Brock shirts when I hear ‘Hey mate Brocky’s retired how about following my team’ I turned around & there was Garry, Jason Bargwanna & Steven Richards standing outside the GRM truck with no one around. We walked back & got talking to the 3 of them & all of a sudden Garry gave my a polo shirt & a t/shirt for my son. He said ‘Brocky is the best but is now gone & I could use another couple of fans – how about it?’ I said to my son ‘ What do you reckon? My son said yeah Dad’ I replied & said ‘Yep we’re in’ with that Garry had the boys sign both shirts including himself & when I went to pay for them he insisted in me paying for only mine. I told him that wasn’t necessary for him to give us a free shirt but he said ‘fans are the lifeblood of our sport especially the young ones & it was his pleasure to do so. We both changed into our new GRM shirts on the spot & instantly became GRM supporters from that day on & still are today regardless of what make of car they ran. I last spoke to Garry at the now defunct Bathurst International & he was as usual outside his merchandise transporter in Harris Park selling, signing & talking to everyone & anyone who wanted to talk. The sports media talk a lot of rubbish these days about who’s a great this & a great that but Garry Rogers is & always will be an Icon of Australian sports a true legend who always made time for young people both in & out of his life. Motorsport has lost a true gentleman, a passionate advocate for young drivers & staff, who treated all of his team’s fans as mates. Goodbye Garry you are missed by a lot of people especially your family. There will never be another like you – ever! Rest in Peace!

  22. Barry, Kaye, Krissie and all of the GRM family… My deepest sympathies. Garry, you gave me my first chance in this industry and bet on me when I first came to Australia. You have inspired me to live my life in a positive way without ever giving up. There was never a challenge you didn’t take on at full speed and you made sure that you instilled that in me every day we shared. You have an incredibly huge heart and I will miss you deeply. I know that you’re up there loving life at 100% throttle and absolutely loving every minute of it with a huge grin on your face and a stubby in your hand! You are a legend of the sport and a testament to this is not just the trophies but the hundreds of lives you helped shape. Thank you thank you thank you and see you flip side!!!

    Pierluigi Orsi

  27. I am shattered about the passing of Garry, we were great Mates, I send my sincere condolences to his Family. I got to know Garry when we were racing our Escorts, we had some great dices. He even gave me a test drive of his Escort at Sandown when I bought his old BDG from him. Later we raced against each other when he had the ex-Pete Geoghegan Monaro and V8 Torana and I had the ex-Bob Jane Monaro. He had a GRM Aussie Racing Car in our Young Gun program and he was always around our pits offering advice to the up-and-coming driver. In the period when we were racing our escorts against each other, for a lark, I had my name PJ Ward on the guard, he thought it was cool so from that day on he always called me PJW, and I called him GFXR, I can still hear his enthusiastic voice on the phone, “GFXR here”. I have just completed my book which is at the printers so too late to include a vale. However, I have been fortunate to have 20 or so famous people write recollections for it, Garry wrote a very nice piece and it’s in there with several pics of him and a story or 2 of things he did for me.
Garry was a great bloke, always smiling and always ready to help in any way he could.
I thought he would always be around, it’s not fair, no one told us getting old would be like this.
    Rest In Peace Mate!

    Phil Ward
