Condolences / Guest Book

  1. I am so so sorry to hear about Joe’s passing, I have a lot of memories of the time we spent out in Gembrook.
I do distinctly remember a story, or a joke within a story, of Joe’s love of his truck and the care he took of it, referencing his “extremely well-polished nuts”. I am not sure if it was a speech given by a friend at a birthday or another event, but it is a memory that has stuck with me until now. It is potentially the moment that encompasses the way I remember Joe being whenever we saw him.
I’ll always remember Joe as an extremely joyous man, and ever the joker who could always see the fun side of everything.

  2. It was with great sadness that l heard of Joe’s illness and now of his passing – my thoughts are with Brigitte, his children and his extended family. l am so sorry for your loss and the pain this will bring.Wishing you peace and comfort from loving support and memories in the days that come.

In the 70’s we were often part of a large group that headed off to Lake Boga or Lake Eildon, Walhalla too. We enjoyed cars that were too noisy camp-fires that were huge (always started with petrol and drama) and laughs that went on all day, usually at ridiculous stunts.

I first met Joe at a party Peter and l went to at Brigitte’s family home which was then Swagemakers store in Gembrook, was it an 18th? l noticed straight up Joe had eyes only for Brigitte. His determination and his perseverance in making sure she knew he was serious definitely paid off.
My memories after are of weekends away as a group, getting sunburnt, 20 camping in one tent at Eildon, everything boats cars trucks and outdoors and beer.
Joe taught me how to do handbrakies in my LH Torana (what fun), let me ride in his Brougham ( what a car) and always waved from his truck when we passed. I’m pretty sure it was him who found my new engagement ring in the sand at Boga (what a hero).
Helping Brigitte and Joe build their first home took up many weekends and taught Peter and l so much we did the same.
Later it was great to see Brigitte and Joe as young parents working hard with Joe always saying Hi with his huge wonderful smile.
These are just a few of the memories l will hold of Joe. I will be watching the service on Thursday from where l now live in Lakes Entrance. Gaylene

  4. We are thinking of you today Brigitte, and your family, as Joe returns home to Gembrook. Where as he said last time we saw him on a cold day in Shoal Bay. ” If it is not raining in Gembrook, it’s dripping of the trees “.
All our love from Robbie and Gail and family.
