A Funeral Bond is a specialised
investment that allows you to set aside
funds to help meet the cost of your future funeral.
Similar to a life insurance policy, the benefit
becomes payable upon death,
with the funds used towards funeral expenses.
It is important to understand that
a Funeral Bond is an investment towards
the cost of a funeral. On its own,
it does not guarantee or protect against
future increases in funeral prices.
There are several organisations that
offer Funeral Bonds, and the
choice of provider is entirely yours.
We can provide you with a close estimate
of what your funeral would cost at today’s prices.
You may then choose to invest this amount,
or contribute additional funds to help allow
for future increases in funeral costs.
When the Funeral Bond is eventually
required, the funeral expenses are paid from the
available funds. Any remaining balance
is generally returned to the estate.
If the Funeral Bond does not contain
sufficient funds to cover the funeral
expenses at the time, the outstanding
balance will need to be paid by the family
The current Funeral Bond
allowable limit is $16,250.
A Funeral Bond may not be counted
as an assessable asset for certain
means-testing purposes if it has been
nominated to a funeral director
and meets the relevant requirements.
